The construction works of the Rail Control Centre (Activity 7) of the project CONNECT Valenciaport finished last spring after four months of construction activity, being the end of works report singed the 15th of May 2017.
CONNECT Valenciaport is a 55M€ project co-funded by the European Commission through its Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) programme that aims to boost the intermodal connectivity of the Port of Valencia and increase the use of railways for freight transport providing continuity with maritime transport. In reference to this activity, the final cost of the new facility was 364.980.59€ (VAT excluded), being the initial bidding budget at 535.005,26 € (VAT excluded).
The new building is located between the rail bifurcations that enter the port from the Fonteta de San Luis Railway Station and it counts with one road access direct to the parking area with capacity for six vehicles plus two pedestrian ones. In total, the the building has 375.55 squared meters in a fenced plot of more than 1.900 squared meters. In reference to its distribution , it is composed by two main plants including a ground floor area for common services and a first floor dedicated to the management of the railway operations of Valenciaport. This first floor has direct views to the port railway access that will count with automatic OCR gates and is equipped with the offices and the main control room for the railway operations.
The new building will allow a better coordination and management of the railway operations of Valenciaport, contributing to an increase in the capacity of rail operations in the Port of Valencia and improving the safety and efficiency of rail transport. In addition, the construction of this facility is aligned with the Port Authority of Valencia’s strategic plan that pursues the integration of the Port of Valencia into the national and European infrastructure networks and thus boost the competitiveness of the industries that are part of the cluster.
